WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH

Technical Visit 1 : ALEGrO project
13:30 - 18:30
Limited number of participants.

62314

Belgium's Elia and Germany's Amprion are developing the Aechen Liege Electricity Grid Overlay (ALEGRO) project that will be the first interconnector between the two countries. The project will involve higher import and export capacities between Belgium and Germany as well as the effective integration and circulation of renewable energy. It will also create broader competition on the electricity market while benefiting companies and the community and downward pressure on energy prices by promoting opportunities for energy exchanges between neighboring countries.

The main sites are:

  • Dry coolers
  • HVDC substation
  • 400kV HVAC substation
  • Single-phase, three-winding HVDC converter transformer
  • Pumps
  • GIS
  • Valve hall

EnergyVille is a collaboration between the research partners KU Leuven, VITO, imec and UHasselt in the field of sustainable energy and intelligent energy systems. Our researchers provide expertise to industry and public authorities on energy-efficient buildings and intelligent networks for a sustainable urban environment.

Fields of interest :

  • Solar
  • Storage
  • Networks : HVDC systems for meshed networks / Interoperability and decision support for grid operators / MV poly-phase grid sensorics / ...
  • Power control and conversion : New materials / compact power convertors / DC unipolar and bipolar nanogrids / Energy conversion
  • Buildings and districts
  • Strategies and markets

 Lab facilities

Our various labs allow us to perform a wide range of tests and simulations.
These top facilities can be interconnected and are complemented by strong multi-disciplinary knowledge, forming the ideal environment to drive the transition to a future-proof sustainable energy system.
